A little story about our even smaller dog…
A few days ago, Carter was going to be traveling to play into Albuquerque, so I decided to drive up from El Paso to meet him. He had been playing in Fresno, which unfortunately was an obscenely expensive trip! So I didn’t travel with him as I normally would. Anyways, we had a nice dinner planned together since we hadn’t seen each other in several days and it was an off (travel) day. All day long everything went exactly as planned. I even drove into Albuquerque at the perfect time to be able to pick Carter up from the airport. This never happens in baseball. And I mean never. We live by Murphy’s law around here, if it can happen, it will! Don’t worry though, just because it didn’t get us earlier in the day, doesn’t mean it didn’t catch up to us later.
Right as we were preparing to leave our hotel room, our two dogs got into a scuffle. We aren’t sure exactly what happened, but we think Nova (our larger girl) got protective of her toy as Wookie (our tiny guy) got too close. Regardless, Wookie ended up with a pretty bad bloody nose. If you know me at all, you know my dogs are my children. So the blood bubbles Wookie was blowing with his nose sent me into full on panic mode! We rushed to the closest vet, which happened to be an emergency vet. Once there we were seen right away and they took Wookie into the back to make sure there were no major problems going on.
Thankfully, we received good news! Wookie stopped bleeding on his nose and they were able to get all of the fluid out easily. We were sent home with antibiotics to make sure Wook doesn’t get an infection (we all know pups love sticking their noses where the don’t belong!) and he is already feeling better.
While I’m sure to some a dog is just a dog, our dogs are a huge part of our family. They travel everywhere with us (within reason) and keep us sane when baseball gets crazy. This experience was just another reminder of how much our dogs mean to us. We can’t imagine life without our babies!
PS: Isn’t he just the cutest!?
